The very nice, and dare we say talented, Max Barry had this to say in a segment on Summer Reading on ABC’s First Tuesday Book Club: Thanks, Max! [...] We couldn’t be happier here at coeur de lion after hearing that Margo Lanagan won a well-deserved World Fantasy Award over the weekend for her truly wonderful X6 novella, ‘Sea-Hearts’. This caps a fantastic year for our little anthology which has scooped an Aurealis, Ditmar and Sir Julius Vogel award and made the Tiptree Honour [...] Over at the Trentonomicon, X6 author Trent Jamieson has decided to share pretty much all he knows about writing, which – given he’s sold over sixty short stories, bagged more than one Aurealis Award, and his new Death Works trilogy is currently being published by Orbit – is quite a bit. We reckon [...] Paul Haines will be reading an extract from his multi-award winning X6 novella, ‘Wives’, this Saturday (11/9/10) in Melbourne’s Federation Square as part of the SPUNC Writers Showcase. The Small Press Underground Networking Community (SPUNC) and Art Fix bring a showcase of great writers to Fed Sq. Featuring : Pooja Mittal – Subliminal Dust (Odyssey [...] Congratulations once again to Paul Haines for the Australian dark fiction juggernaut that is ‘Wives’. The X6 novella had a good week starting with a Sir Julius Vogel Award for best novella at the New Zealand natcon Au Contraire, and topping it off with a Ditmar for best novella at the Australian natcon ‘Dudcon’ [...] We’re very proud and somewhat overwhelmed to learn that Margo Lanagan’s awesome X6 novella, ‘Sea-Hearts’, has been shortlisted in this year’s World Fantasy Awards for best novella. The awards ceremony will be held at the 36th World Fantasy Convention in Colorado during the weekend of October 28-31. Go Margo! [...] Congratulations to Paul Haines for the shortlisting of his blistering novella ‘Wives’ (X6, coeur de lion) in this year’s Ditmar Ballot. Paul’s collection Slice of Life also got a nod in the collected works section. The Ditmars will be awarded at this year’s Worldcon to be held in Melbourne at the beginning of September. The [...] Wordle is a cool app for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. We decided to run the text from Paul Haines’s Aurealis Award winning novella ‘Wives’ from X6 through Wordle to see what came out. As you might [...] The Shirley Jackson Award is presented each year for outstanding achievement in the literature of psychological suspense, horror, and the dark fantastic. Margo Lanagan’s X6 novella ‘Sea-Hearts’ was shortlisted in the novella section this year but was pipped at the post by Nick Antosca’s ‘Midnight Picnic’. Congratulations to all the shortlisted and winning authors. See [...] Gardner Dozois’s Year’s Best Science Fiction – Twenty-Seventh Annual Collection has just hit the bookshops with some very nice comments about coeur de lion in the 2009 Summation: ‘One of the year’s best anthologies was published by an ultra-small press in Australia, and is going to be very difficult for most readers to find. Nevertheless, [...] |
